- Place the drive battery (or batteries) in the hull and
secure them with the rubber bands 5.9, do not
connect the batteries at this stage.
- Prepare the switch plate 12.3
- Drill out the switch lug to 1.5 mm.
- Bend the switch pushrod 12.4 to the shape shown.
- Mount the switch in the switch plate.
- Thread the guide tube 12.5 into position from the
right, using a length of wire as a guide. Set the tube
flush with the outside of the model, and secure it
with a fillet of UHU acrylit on the inside.
- Install the switch unit and glue the plate in place with
the pushrod projecting by about 15 mm at the rear.
- Lubricate the propeller shaft with Teflon grease
applied through the lubricating tube 3.1.
Balancing
- Mark the centre of gravity on both sides of the hull at
a point 290 mm forward of the stern.
- Support the completed boat at the marked points,
and adjust the position of the drive batteries until the
model balances level. Mark the position of the
batteries in the installation cradle using a felt-tip pen.
- Note: if you are using a single battery, you will need
to fit the lead ballast 12.6 on the opposite side to
compensate for the off-centre load. The weight of
the ballast should be the same as the battery.
- If possible, half-fill a bathtub with water and place
the boat in it. Check that it does not heal (lean to
one side), and adjust the position of the ballast if
necessary.
Maiden voyage, running the boat
- Wait for a day with little or no wind for the first run,
and seek out a large area of unobstructed water.
- Place the model in the boatstand.
- Switch on the transmitter, then the receiving system.
Always keep to this sequence when switching on.
- Check that the transmitter throttle stick is at the
‚motor stopped' position.
- Connect the drive batteries.
- Check all the working systems one last time.
- Place the boat in the water and run it at low speed in
the ‚straight ahead' direction. Adjust the steering trim
on the transmitter if necessary.
- Run the model at moderate speed until you feel
familiar with the model's steering response.
- Open the throttle gently when running the boat in
reverse.
- When you have to steer the boat towards the bank
or close to obstacles such as buoys, take care to
throttle back in good time.
- At some point in each run you will notice that the
model is slowing down, and this indicates that the
batteries are almost flat. Run the boat back to the
bank immediately.
- At the end of each run open the boat and leave it to
dry out. Disconnect the batteries from the speed
controller, and only then switch off the receiver and
finally the transmitter.
- If you had to adjust the steering trim, adjust the
mechanical linkage so that you can return the trim
slider to centre. This ensures that you always have
full trim travel available for subsequent runs.
- From time to time check that the water cooling
connections are still completely watertight.
