24.5.4 CHECK AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR BELT
TENSION ADJUST.
CHECKING
1.
Remove belt guard

Press compressor drive belt midway between fan pulley and com-
pressor pulley. The belt should normally deflect by about 15 - 18 mm
(0.60 - 0.70 inch) when pressed with the finger (with a force of
approx. 6Kg (13Ib)).
ADJUSTING
1.
Loosen two nuts and bolts

Carefully lever compressor housing as shown to tighten belt to within
tightness criteria. Tighten lower bolt to hold in position.
3.
Tighten upper bolt.
4.
Check each pulley for damage, wear of the v-groove and wear of the
v-bolt. In particular, be sure to check the v-belt is not touching the
bottom of the v-groove.
5.
Replace belt if it has stretched, leaving no allowance for adjustment,
or if there is a cut or crack on belt.
6.
Refit belt guard.
7.
When the new belt is set, readjust it after operating for one hour.
