Measuring a Low-Level Signal

Using the Average Detector and
Increased Sweep Time
The analyzer’s noise floor response may mask low-level
signals. Selecting the instruments averaging detector
and increasing the sweep time will smooth the noise and
improve the signal’s visibility. Slower sweep times are
necessary to average noise variations.

and follow steps 1, 2 and 3.
2 Press [TRACE] > {More} > {Detector} > {Average} to
select the average detector.
3 Press [BW/SWP] > {Sweep Time} to set the sweep
time to 500 ms.
Note how the noise appears to smooth out. The
analyzer has more time to average the values for each
of the displayed data points.
4 Press [BW/SWP] > {Avg Type} to change the average
type.
