When using the
or
functions on the rear panel digital connector, connect the Fault/Inhibit
pins only on the primary unit. You do not need to connect the Fault/Inhibit pins of the secondary units.
Primary/Secondary Command Details
Once connected, the group of units are controlled through the primary and appear as a single higher
power unit. All programming commands should be sent to the primary unit. The following SCPI
commands are not supported in primary/secondary mode:
CALibrate
all CALibrate commands except CAL:STAT
OUTPut:COUPle<:STATe|:DOFFet>
all :STAT and :DOFF commands
The following SCPI commands can be sent to the secondary unit in primary/secondary mode. Other
commands may be allowed, but could disrupt control of the secondary unit by the primary unit.
INSTrument:GROup:FUNCtion
Enables the primary/secondary function
INSTrument:SECondary:ADDRess
Sets the secondary bus address
LXI:IDENtify:STATe
Turn on front panel LXI Identify indicator
LXI:MDNS:STATe
Sets the LXI MDNS state
SYSTem:REBoot
*
Reboot command
*The Reboot command can also be sent to the primary unit, but will not propagate to the secondary units.
Troubleshooting
In Primary/Secondary mode, the following status indicators and messages may appear on the front
panel:
PSP - primary/secondary protection
There has been a communication loss between the primary and secondary units. Check that the
are installed in the primary/secondary connectors, not in the in the LAN or Safety
Disconnect.
CSF - Current sharing fault
There has been a current sharing fault due to the primary/secondary loop being out of regulation. This
can occur if the
are set incorrectly. It can also occur temporarily if there has been
a mode crossover from a load transient or due to rapid up/down programming. If this is the case, set
the current limit to a higher value. CSF can also occur if the loop can no longer regulate the current
imbalance between units. CSF can also be an initial indication of communication loss with the primary
unit; which will transition to PSP.
No secondary units discovered or 1 secondary discovered (if expecting multiple secondary units)
Check that there are no duplicate secondary addresses.
Error 332, Primary/Secondary Error
