4.4.  Transition modes 

Transition  modes  are  modes  not  directly  selectable  by  the  pilot,  but 
are required to transition from the current mode to the newly selected 
mode. The following main transition modes are explained:  

  Extending 

  Starting 

  Cooling 

  Retracting 

 

4.4.1.  Extending 

Extending  is  initiated  when  the  Jet  engine  is  retracted  and  the  Jet 
Control  toggle  switch  is  moved  to  the  EXT  (middle)  or  RUN  (top) 
position. 

During  extension  the  JDU  will  display  an 
extending  pylon  and  the  Engine  Extension 
LED will be flashing green.
