Engine (continued)
Bleeding the Fuel System
Air in the fuel system could cause misfiring or failure to
start. Air will enter the system if any part of it is
disconnected or emptied.
Note:
Running the engine with air in the system could
damage the fuel injection pump. After maintenance,
remove air from the fuel system as detailed below.

Stop the Engine
Switch off the engine and remove the key.

Disconnect the Battery
Remove the negative lead to chassis.

Open the Engine Compartment
Locate bleed plug

and priming pump
C

Prepare for Bleeding
Loosen bleed plug
A
on the fuel filter head. Release
knob
B
on the priming pump
C
by turning it anti-
clockwise. The knob will be lifted by spring pressure.

Bleed the System
Operate the priming pump knob
B
until there are no
air bubbles at bleed plug
A
.

Restore the System to Normal
Tighten bleed plug
A
. Depress knob
B
and turn
clockwise to lock into priming pump
C
.

Check for Leaks
!
WARNING
Fuel oil is highly inflammable. Completely wipe off any
spilt fuel which could cause a fire.

Wipe up any spilled fuel. Then start the engine and
check for leaks.
