Fiber Optic Cable Handling Guidelines
WARNING
•
Never look directly into the fiber ports or the end of a cable
connected to an active transmitter. The light levels may damage
your eyesight.
•
Never use a microscope to view an active cable system. The
concentration of the light from the microscope could permanently
damage your eye.
Please observe the following general guidelines when handling fiber optic cable, as well
as all manufacturer recommendations.
•
Do
not
bend the cable beyond the minimum radius specified.
•
Do
not
touch the end of the fiber optic strands.
•
Always protect the ends of a fiber optic strand from coming in contact with dust, dirt,
or other contaminants.
•
Always put protective caps on disconnected fiber cable connectors.
•
Clean any contaminated ends with a soft, clean, lintless cloth and alcohol.
•
Observe all local regulations for installation, including the use of personal safety
equipment.
•
Always dispose of any fiber waste. This prevents the contamination of clothes, fingers,
or eyes by glass fragments.
•
Review all cable parameters and specifications before installation. Be sure you have
the proper amount of connectors and installation equipment. Never attempt to use non-
compatible connectors and installation tools.
