DC Motor Current Draw (Full Load) 33
DC MOTOR CURRENT DRAW (FULL LOAD)
Equipment: Inductive Pickup Amp Meter
WARNING: This test is extremely dan-
gerous and should not be attempted by
anyone that is not familiar with testing
electrical components capable of High Amp
Draw!
DO NOT attempt to perform this procedure
unless adequate safety precautions are taken
to prevent injury in case of fire or explosion!
FAILURE TO HEED CAN RESULT IN SERI-
OUS INJURY OR DEATH.
WARNING: Vehicle engine must be
running for this procedure. Make sure
that there is adequate ventilation in
test area and/or that vehicle exhaust is vent-
ed outside of test area building.
FAILURE TO HEED CAN RESULT IN SERI-
OUS INJURY OR DEATH.
WARNING: Plow must be raised dur-
ing this test. DO NOT stand between
the blade and the vehicle while motor
is being tested.
FAILURE TO HEED CAN RESULT IN SERI-
OUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Park vehicle in an area with adequate ventilation
and with enough room to safely, raise the plow.
Install an Inductive Pickup Amp Meter around
the red or red striped cable (Battery Positive) at
the motor.
PHOTO NO. 3756
Ensure that park brake is engaged and vehicle
is in park (automatic transmission) or neutral
(standard transmission). Turn ignition switch on
and start vehicle engine. Set idle speed at a fast
idle.
Raise the plow to the FULL UP POSITION and
hold it there while reading the amperage draw of
the motor.
If amperage draw exceeds 300 AMPS, perform
the Current Draw (No-Load) Test. See page 34.
If amperage draw is within limits, test the hy-
draulic pump for possible failure. See page 28.
