1. Pre-Flight Checks
CAUTION:
INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCEDURES IN
THIS SECTION MAY INVOLVE PROPELLER
CRITICAL PARTS. REFER TO THE
INTRODUCTION CHAPTER OF THIS MANUAL
FOR INFORMATION ABOUT PROPELLER
CRITICAL PARTS. REFER TO THE
ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST CHAPTER OF THE
APPLICABLE OVERHAUL MANUAL(S) FOR THE
IDENTIFICATION OF SPECIFIC PROPELLER
CRITICAL PARTS.
Follow propeller preflight inspection procedures as specified in the
aircraft maintenance manual or this manual. In addition, perform
the following inspections:
A. Blades
CAUTION:
BLADE DAMAGE THAT IS DEEPER OR
WIDER THAN 0.031 INCH (0.79 MM) MUST
BE REPAIRED BEFORE FURTHER FLIGHT.
FOR BLADE REPAIR INFORMATION,
REFER TO THE MAINTENANCE
PRACTICES CHAPTER OF THIS MANUAL.
(1) Visually inspect the entire blade for nicks, gouges,
erosion, and cracks. Nicks, gouges, and scratches on
blade surfaces or on the leading or trailing edges of the
blade that are deeper or wider than 0.031 inch
(0.79 mm) must be removed before flight. For blade repair
information refer to the Maintenance Practices chapter of
this manual.
(2) Visually inspect the blades for lightning strike. Refer to the
Lightening Strikes section in this chapter for a description
of damage.
B. Inspect the spinner and visible blade retention components for
damage or cracks. Replace components as required before
further flight.
C. Check for loose/missing hardware. Retighten or reinstall as
necessary.
