APPENDIX D: PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT
What?
The only end-user maintenance recommended is keep-
ing the video heads and lower cylinder clean. The three
most important ways to maintain cleanliness and maxi-
mize the useful life of the video heads are as follows:

Operate in an environment as cool (no lower than
40° F) and as dust free as possible.
When?
Every year or approximately 10,000 TOTAL USAGE
HOURS as shown in the Systems Data submenu, the
unit should be inspected and serviced by a competent,
trained technician. Servicing the unit on a regular basis
will minimize potential problems and unexpected fail-
ures.

About
How?
Video Head Cleaning: The recorder has an internal
automatic video head cleaning system. If playback has
excessive noise across the entire video picture and the
appropriate Tracking Control does not help, a video
head cleaning may be necessary.
The internal head cleaning system can be activated by
ejecting the tape and reinserting. If that procedure does
not help and a service technician is not available and
time is of the essence, the 3M brand cleaning cassette has
been found to be acceptable (please follow instructions)
and can be purchased locally.

Preventative Maintenance...
After 8000 hours or 1 year, potential wear problems
begin to increase. To minimize down time, the unit
should be completely serviced by a local Authorized
