4. Only to AT vehicles: depress the break pedal
to floor till vehicles moves.

Make sure (a) is completed before start the en-
gine.

Normal Start Process
Multi-port fuel injection system/programming
multi-port fuel injection system of the engine
automatically controls the air-fuel mist for
start-up. Follow the procedures below for cold
and hot start.
1. At the same time when foot is lifted from
acceleration pedal, switch the key to
“START”
to start the engine. Release the
key when engine is started.
2. Be prepared to drive after the engine has
run for 10 seconds.
If the temperature is under zero degrees centi-
grade, warm the engine up for several minutes
before driving.
If engine stalls
Follow the regular start procedure and start the
engine one more time.
If engine does not start
Refer to the Chapter 3-1 if vehicle does not start.
Notice
Do not start the engine for more
than 30 seconds each time, or the engine
and wires may be overheated.
Do not race the engine at high speed.
Check the engine immediately if the
engine is hard to start or often stalls.

1. Inspect the circumstance around the vehicle
before get into the vehicle.
2. Adjust seat position, seatback angle, head
restraint height and steering wheel angle.
3. Adjust the rear view mirrors in and out
of the vehicle
4. Lock all the doors
5. Fasten seat belt
How to Start the Engine
(a) Before Starting
1. Apply park brake tightly.
2. Shut down all unnecessary lights and acces
sory facilities.
3. Manual transmission: depress the clutch
pedal to the floor and shift to neutral. Keep
the clutch pedal to floor till engine is started.
Automatic transmission: position shift lever to
“P”. If shift lever is in other position, start safety
system will prevent the engine from cranking.
