5. Once the desired amount of espresso has run into the cup/cups, turn the selector
switch back to the center position (›standby‹). Thus, the brewing process is termi-
nated.
As long as the appliance is switched on, the appliance remains in operational mode
and maintains a constant temperature in the grouphead. As soon as the temperature
decreases in the grouphead, the heater will automatically switch on again and the
heating indicator light up.
Note:
After completion of the brewing process, wait for a moment before removing the
cup off the rust, because the coffee keeps runing on after turnig the switch off.
6. If you do not want to brew any more espresso, press the ›on/off‹-switch to turn off
the appliance and unplug the power cord. Wait until the appliance has cooled
down before cleaning the appliance according to the instructions in the section
›Care and Cleaning‹.
THE PRE-BREW-FUNCTION
Upon activation of the Espresso program (selection switch on the right), the 15-bar
pump initially transportes some water, then pauses for a moment and then pumpes
more water through the ground coffee in the portafilter. The espresso powder is
moistened by this method with some water before the actual brewing process starts.
This swells the espresso powder in the grouphead, so a greater pressure can be built
up. In this way, the oils and flavors of the coffee are better delivered to the water.
EMPTYING THE PORTAFILTER
WARNING:
The metal parts of the filter and the portafilter are very hot after use
for some time. Grasp the hot portafilter only by the black handle. Cool down the
portafilter and the filter first with cold water before you touch the metal parts.
1. Remove the portafilter from the grouphead. Grasp the portafilter by the black
handle and rotate the portafilter to the left (clockwise) until the lock is released.
2. Empty the portafilter over a bowl or sink. Dispose of the used espresso powder
in the household waste or compostable kitchen waste. Do not dispose of the
espresso powder in the sink, otherwise the drain could be clogged.
3. The filters sit firmly in the portafilter. Lift the filter by the recesses on the sides of
the portafilter to remove it from the portafilter.
4. Rinse the filter and portafilter with clear water and allow these components to dry.
