Cautions for installing a memory module
The supported maximum capacity varies depending on the OS to be installed. Furthermore, since the
server uses part of memory as PCI resources, the maximum available capacity has limitation. The table
below describes maximum installable memory capacity and available memory capacity.
*1: For Windows Server 2003, up to 62GB memory can be installed. If the installed memory is larger than
62GB, memory dump cannot be obtained properly.
*2: To install more than 4GB memory, set Physical Address Extension (PAE) on an OS. By setting PAE, the
installed memory capacity can be used as the available memory capacity. For details on how to set PAE,
refer to the Microsoft Web site.
If CPU's Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature is enabled, PAE for the OS will be automatically enabled.
However, setting the PAE on the OS is recommended in order to ensure the setting.
To enable CPU's DEP feature, start up BIOS Setup Utility, select the [Advanced] menu – the [Advanced
Processor Configuration] submenu, and set [Execute Disable Bit] to "Enabled".

LAN cable
Connect a LAN cable to the server that is disconnected from the Internet.
` Security problems may occur if you access the Internet during setup operation. Do not access the
Internet until the setup completes.
When the OS installation and/or automatic installation of an application are performed without
connecting a LAN cable to a LAN card, an error may be recorded in the event viewer after setup
completes.

When installing Windows Server 2003
Connect a LAN cable to a LAN card after Service Pack 2 is applied when:
• Performing a half-duplex connection with 10 Mbps
• Installing Intel
®
PROSet
When an optional LAN card is installed and OS is installed by using ServerStart, Intel
®
PROSet is
automatically installed.
