Interconnecting cable or earthing cable is too long,
cross-sectional area of cable is too small
Correct the welding parameters - use a cable
with a larger cross-sectional area, otherwise
create new welding programs
Arrange the hosepack or cable as straight as
possible, or reel in in a bifilar pattern
Interconnecting cable or earthing cable is badly laid
out or incorrectly reeled in
Poor earth connection
Ensure good contact between earthing clamp
and workpiece
Replace any burnt/charred parts - use a new
earthing cable if necessary
Check / change the wire spool
Check the weldability of the base metal
Incorrect alloy and/or diameter of wire
Uneven wirefeed speed
Braking force is set too high
Loosen the brake
Screw in the right contact tube for the diameter
of wire being welded
Contact-tube bore is too narrow
Remove contact tip or wire nozzle, depending on
the type of torch, and check the length of the liner
Fit an inner liner with the correct internal
diameter
Change any kinked or blocked liners (this is
essential!)
Wire inner liner in torch is too short, blocked or too
narrow
Set the knurled nut on the pressure set-screw so
that the wire electrode is fed smoothly, yet
without being deformed
Wirefeed rollers have insufficient contact pressure
Welding wire forms a loop between the
feed rollers and the wire inlet nozzle
Wrong wire nozzle
Check value stamped onto nozzle
Contact tube is too narrow
Change the contact tube
Insert liner of the correct size for the diameter of
wire being used
Replace the inner liner
Reduce contact pressure by turning knurled nut
Inner diameter of wire inner liner is too narrow
Wire inner liner blocked, rusty, kinked or too short
Contact pressure of feed rollers is too high
Set up motor base-plate correctly
Incorrect drive rollers (shape and diameter of
groove)
Tool-up the welding torch correctly
Welding torch not tooled up correctly
Motor fuse is defective
Wirefeeder motor is not running
Ready indicator is lit up, open-circuit voltage is
present, no flow of shielding gas
Change motor fuse 2F9 on the VM34 auxiliary
transformer
Shift the torch On/Off switch on the wirefeeder to
the "ON" position
Torch On/Off switch on wirefeeder is on "OFF"
Break in control-voltage supply to wirefeeder
Check 37-pole control plug and interconnecting
cable from power source to wirefeeder
Ready indicator is lit up, open-circuit voltage is
present, shielding gas is flowing
Fault
Cause
Remedy
Measure voltage on motor. If motor voltage is
present, the motor must be changed.
Carbon brushes worn out; motor defective
Change the contact tube
Contact tube is too large, or its bore is worn
