SPECIFIC CHEMISTRIES
Method: Silica-01A (0-100 ppb ug/l)
SILICA IN BOILER WATER & FEEDWATER
RANGE: 0-100ppb (ug/l)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This procedure for the determination of soluble sili-
cates is based upon the reduction of molybdosilicic
acid to molybdenum blue by ascorbic acid. The
molybdenum blue complex is measured at 820 nm.
Oxalic acid is introduced to the sample stream to pre-
vent interference from phosphate.
REAGENTS
REAGENT #1 SULFURIC ACID, (Red), #180-1030-35
REAGENT #2 AMMONIUM MOLYBDATE REAGENT,
(Orange), #180-1030-48
REAGENT #3 OXALIC ACID, (Green), #180-1030-33
REAGENT #4 ASCORBIC ACID SOLUTION, (Blue)
#180-1030-34 plus 180-1030-36
WORKING STANDARDS
100 ppb, #180-1030-40
Baseline Solution, #180-1030-31
OPERATING NOTES
1. The use of glassware for storage of reagents
should be avoided as much as possible since it
may contribute silica.
2. The chemical used for reagents and distilled water
should be free of silicate.
3. The sample stream must be clarified before being
introduced to the system with an on-line filter such
as Rosemount Analytical’s IF-100 (part #180-1400-
01).
4. The ammonium molybdate must be made up so
that the reagent is clear. If it has any blue color, it
should be rejected. Also all reagents should free of
precipitate after a period of standing.

Method: SODIUM-01A (0-10, 0-100 ug/l (ppb))
SODIUM IN WATER
RANGE: 0-10, 0-100 ug/l (ppb)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Sodium ion is measured potentiometrically using ion
selective electrodes. The addition of an ionic strength
adjuster to the sample maintains constant background
ionic strength and pH.
REAGENTS
REAGENT #1, IONIC STRENGTH ADJUSTER (WORK-
ING), (Red), #180-1011-31
WORKING STANDARDS
100 ppb, #180-1011-32
10 ppb, #180-1011-33
1 ppb, #180-1011-34
OPERATING NOTES
1. To shut down the system after a working day,
clamp the solution lines on the input and output
of the electrode so that the ISA solution stays in
the electrode assembly while the platen is taken
off the pump.
2. Harness Assembly:
#180-S001-18
Sodium Electrode:
#180-1011-35
Reaction vessel assembly:
#180-S027-30
