SECTION 10
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Your Chempure Series analyzer is a precision instru-
ment which, if maintained properly, should provide
years of accurate and reliable service.
10.1 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
As a routine part of instrument operation, the following
recommended preventive maintenance should be done
at the indicated intervals. (Detailed instructions for the
recommended maintenance follows this section.)
10.1.1 WEEKLY
1. Inspect all fittings to ensure tight fit.
2. Inspect all tubing for leakage.
10.1.2 MONTHLY
The reagents and pump tubing harness are designed
for one month of service, replace both on a regular
monthly schedule to ensure peak performance.
1. Wash system fluidics using solutions recommend-
ed in
Appendix
(Specific Chemistries) instructions.
2. Lift off pump platen and clean underside of platen
with a damp, lint-free cloth.
3. Replace pump tubing harness.
4. Replace all reagents with new bottles.
10.1.3 QUARTERLY
1. Check colorimeter source lamp. If a blue halo or
severe blackening is observed, change lamp (see
Section 12 REPAIR AND SERVICE
).
2. Clean interference filter.
3. Replace sample intake tubing (from solenoid valve
#1 to overflow tube).
4. Before putting on new harness, clean tubing lines
as follows:
a. Place all lines in 0.5N NaOH and pump for 3
minutes on HI speed.
b. Place lines in deionized water and pump for 3
minutes on HI speed.
c. Place lines in 0.5N H2SO4 and pump for 3 min-
utes on HI speed.
d. Remove lines from solution and pump air for 3
minutes on HI speed.
e. Reset pump speed to NORM.
10.1.4 YEARLY
1. Clean entire cabinet and reagent shelf with mild
detergent and water.
10.2 MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
10.2.1 NAOH FLUIDICS WASH
(SILICA ANALYZER ONLY)
A monthly wash with a dilute sodium hydroxide solution
will keep the silica analyzer tubing and valves clean.
Wash should be performed just prior to monthly
replacement of pump tubing harness. To wash, pro-
ceed as follows:
1. Remove reagent straws from reagent bottles
and place in bottle of 0.5N NaOH (Cat. No.
180-1030-42).
2. Set pump speed to HI and let run for 2 minutes.
3. Press
man. baseline
and let run for 1 minute.
4. Remove tubes from NaOH and allow analyzer to
pump air for 2 minutes.
5. Set pump speed to NORM and turn main power
OFF.
6. Replace pump tubing harness and reagents.
10.2.2 PUMP TUBING HARNESS REPLACEMENT
Remove pump tubing harness as follows:
1. While system is still running, disconnect sample
tubing from solenoid valve #1 on the left.
2. Lift reagent straws out of reagents.
3. Switch pump speed to HI for 3 minutes to pump air
through the system, then return speed to NORM.
4. Switch pump power OFF.
5. Tilt pump forward and lift platen off pump (see
Figure 4-4)
.
6. Open quick disconnect fitting by pushing lock
down and pulling two halves apart.
7. Lift pump tubing harness off pump and discard.
Install new pump tubing harness as follows:
1. Hold quick disconnect end of tubing harness in left
hand and free end of tubing in right hand.
2. Place left hand set of tubing shoulders into left
pump end blocks, placing first tube into lowest
slot.
3. Stretching with right hand, place right hand set of
tubing shoulders into right pump end blocks.
Make sure that individual tubes remain parallel.
4. Connect the pump tubing harness to the chemistry
module tubing by pressing together the two halves
of the quick disconnect connector (they will only fit
one way). Lock quick disconnect by pushing lock
switch up.
