Locking, Unlocking, and Advancing the Gate Arm
The PosiDRIVE Security Gate drive mechanism is designed to lock at the limits of
travel. This feature prevents the gate arm from being moved manually when the gate is
in the fully up or fully down position, which ensures:

The safety of the technician(s) that perform maintenance and repairs on the gate. For
example, many procedures call for locking the gate in the
up position to ensure the
gate arm does not fall and the drive mechanism does not move while maintenance or
repairs are preformed.
■
The security of the facility by preventing someone from manually lifting the gate
arm to gain unauthorized access or to exit without paying a fee.
The gate arm is not properly
positioned, i.e., the gate arm
is not horizontal when
linkage is in the full down
position. The drive mechanism has
slipped. Adjust the drive
mechanism. See
“Aligning the Drive
Mechanism” on page 54.
The gate does not operate
smoothly, landing
excessively hard in the up
or down positions. The mainspring is
imbalanced. See “Setting the
Mainsprings” on page 38.
The gate arm begins to
raise when commanded,
and then stops and returns
to the down position. There is a severe negative
mainspring imbalance. See “Setting the
Mainsprings” on page 38.
The gate arm begins to
lower, and then stops and
returns to the raised
position; this happens
repeatedly. There is a severe positive
mainspring imbalance. See “Setting the
Mainsprings” on page 38.
