Warning
When the power supply is outside the chassis (not installed), do not plug the power supply
into an electrical outlet. Plugging an uninstalled AC power supply into an electrical outlet
exposes you to a hazardous energy and is a potential fire hazard.
Caution
Before installing or removing any components of the system, or before carrying out any
maintenance procedures, read the safety information provided in
on page 478. Not following these precautions can result in equipment damage or
shock.
Caution
Be sure that proper ESD controls are in use before switch maintenance is performed. This
includes but is not limited to wrist straps that are grounded to the switch chassis and earth
grounds.
Note
See "Technical Specifications" for additional information regarding regulatory compliance
certifications.
Pre-installation Requirements
You need the following tools and equipment to install an external power supply:
•
# 1 Phillips screwdriver
•
Rack mount screws suitable for your organization’s equipment rack
•
Screwdriver suitable for use with your rack-mount screws
•
AC power cord
An AC power cord is not included with the external power supply. Obtain a power supply cord that
meets the requirements listed under
Power Cord Requirements for AC-Powered Switches and AC
Note
When you connect an external power supply, consider all of the equipment that is connected
to the power supply circuit to ensure that the circuit is not overloaded. Use proper overcurrent
protection, such as a circuit breaker, to prevent overcurrent conditions.
The switch and each redundant power supply source should be plugged into separate branch
circuits to provide redundancy.
Installing an EPS-C2 Power Supply
Install one, two, or three Summit 750 W AC power supplies (model 10931) in the EPS-C2 chassis (model
10936) to build an external redundant power system for one or more compatible switches
One redundant power cable is shipped with the EPS-C2 chassis to provide the connection between the
external power system and the redundant power input connector on the back of a switch. Additional
redundant power cables are available from Extreme Networks.
