Verifying Side Mode Suppression
Subject
The following procedure verifies the suppression of any wave emissions that are more
than 1 nm away from the selected wavelength.
This procedure requires the use of an optical spectrum analyzer.
Procedure
1.
Connect the laser output to the optical spectrum analyzer.

Set the laser wavelength at mid-range of the wavelength specification range listed in
section
Technical Specifications, p. 12

Set the laser output power to 0 dBm

Configure the optical spectrum analyzer as follows:

Verify that at wavelength deviations larger than 1 nm from the centered wavelength
of the laser peak, the power level of any residual emissions is lower than -45 dB
down from the peak level.

Verifying Wavelength and Power Calibration
Subject
During the course of the performance verification it is possible that the settings for
wavelength and power may not agree with the measured values. If this occurs, you may
calibrate wavelength and power settings from the front panel.
To perform the wavelength and power calibration procedures, refer to section
If the performance does not meet warranted specifications, a complete calibration of the
product may be required.
Some calibration steps require the adjustment of internal components including the laser
head.
Therefore, a complete calibration must be performed by authorized EXFO staff only.
