7. Enabling Active Wavelength Monitoring
When associated with an external optical wavelength meter, the T100S-HP tunable laser
can implement active wavelength monitoring to achieve high-precision wavelength
tuning (±2 pm, typically or within the wavemeter’s accuracy).
7.1
Setting Up the Product for Active Wavelength Monitoring
Subject
This section outlines the product setup and system requirements.
Before Starting
The wavemeter used must meet the following hardware and configuration requirements:
•
Serial port command set: based on the SCPI (Standard Commands for Programming
Instruments) syntax.
•
Serial interface configuration:
•
RS-232: ON
•
Baud rate: 9600
•
Handshaking: None
Depending on the wavemeter you are using, configuration can be achieved either via
soft-panel controls or by hardware setting via a back-panel dip-switch. For details on how
to configure your wavemeter, please refer to the user’s manual provided by the
manufacturer.
As an example, with a Burleigh-EXFO wavemeter, use a DB9 male-male straight-through
serial cable to connect the T100S-HP RS-232 C port to the wavemeter serial port.
Please contact your EXFO representative for a list of compatible wavemeters.
Procedure
1.
To setup the measurement, connect the T100S-HP output to the wavemeter via the
low output port of an optical coupler.
The remainder of the signal available on the coupler’s high-output is sent to the
component under test, as shown in the following figure.
