Each Windows Power Scheme will also adjust the processor performance of
your machine in order to save power. This is worth bearing in mind if you are
experiencing any reduced performance (especially under DC/battery power).
Set the Power Scheme which is most appropriate for the conditions and the
applications you are using (e.g. games, 3D applications, audio and video pro-
grams etc. usually require high CPU performance).
Choose the Home/Office scheme for maximum performance when the com-
puter is powered from an AC power source. You can choose the Max Battery
(see “Microsoft XP Patch Q330512 (Max Battery)” on page A - 2 ) scheme
(bear in mind that this scheme may slow down the overall performance of the
computer in order to save power) for maximum power saving when the com-
puter is battery (DC power) powered.
Windows will use Portable/Laptop as the default scheme.
For advanced information see Appendix A:“Advanced Power Saving” on
page A-1 . This Appendix also contains information on the Intel CPU Speed-
Step Controls ( page A - 3 ) which help you maximize the balance between
power saving and processor performance.
