1.
Make sure your equipment meets the minimum requirements:
• PC-compatible with Windows 95 or better
• CD-ROM drive built in or attached
• At least 100MB of disk space free
• Support for ECP mode on the parallel port
• IEEE 1284 bi-directional cable (maximum 6 feet long)
This cable is for connection to the 36-pin mini (IEEE 1284-C) connector on the
RIP Station 5000. A one-cable connection is recommended but a converter cable is
provided if necessary.
2.
Install the PostScript printer driver for the RIP Station 5000 located on the User CD in
the Windows 95 subdirectory.
This driver supports IEEE 1284 fast bi-directional throughput over an ECP parallel port.
You may skip this step if a comparable printer driver is already installed on the PC-
compatible.
See Setup Guide for directions on installing printer drivers.
3.
Power on the PC-compatible and make sure that in the BIOS, Parallel Port Mode is set to
ECP Mode.
To access the BIOS, power on the PC-compatible and press the key indicated on your
monitor.
If you are unable to determine what key to press to access the BIOS, press a likely key
repeatedly. Doing this may interrupt the starting of Windows and access either the BIOS
or directions for accessing the BIOS. A likely key is ESC, DEL, F1, or a combination.
Once in the BIOS, you may have to scroll through several screens to reach the settings for
the parallel port.
You may discover that ECP is the default mode, therefore, no change to the BIOS is
necessary. Conversely, you may discover that ECP mode is not supported.
N
OTE
:
If ECP is not supported, you can either install an add-in board (not provided), use
a different PC-compatible, or opt for a slower installation by choosing Compatibility
Mode.
After setting the Parallel Port Mode to ECP, save your changes and exit the BIOS.
You are now ready to confirm ECP mode in Windows 95 and configure the Port and
Spool settings in Windows 95 for the parallel port.
4.
In Windows 95, click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Printers.
