2.1 S5U1C88348T Main Board
This is the base board on which other boards are mounted. It incorporates the following devices:
External RAM socket
A 32-pin socket is incorporated on U6, with 32K bytes of RAM mounted when shipped from the
factory. This RAM may be upgraded to 64K or 128K bytes. For more information on changing/
upgrading RAM, see Section 4.2, "Replacing External RAM".
RAM is mapped to locations beginning at address 100000h and is accessed using the CE2 signal.
External ROM mounting pattern
U5 is a 32-bit pattern provided for mounting external ROM. When using external ROM, solder a 32-
pin socket to the pattern, then attach ROM.
You can use four ROM sizes: 32K bytes, 64K bytes, 128K bytes, and 256K bytes. The ROM is mapped
to the CE0 area (beginning with address 0 for MPU mode or address 200000h for MCU mode). For
more information on mounting ROM, see Section 4.3, "Mounting External ROM".
Power supply circuit
The S5U1C88348T is powered by three AA cells. When placing the batteries, take care to avoid wrong
directions.
To use the S5U1C88348T after connection to the ICE, you must first remove the batteries, since power
is supplied by the ICE. This requires modifying the board configuration. For more information on
making these modifications, see Section 4.1, "Battery Mode and ICE Mode".
LCD driver
The S5U1C88348T incorporates a 128 dot
×
32 dot LCD panel, requiring an external LCD driver in
addition to the internal ICD driver of the S1C8P348. The Main Board comes with a S1D15210F
mounted as an external LCD driver. For more information on the interaction among the LCD panel,
display memory, and LCD driver, see Section 2.3, "S5U1C88348T LCD Board".
LED monitor
A data latch for LED use is mapped to address 180004h in the CE3 area. The LED can be turned on by
writing 8-bit data to this address. LED1 corresponds to data bit 0, and LED8 corresponds to data bit 7.
The LED lights when the corresponding data bit is 0, and goes out when the data bit is 1.
RESET switch
This switch is connected to the RESET pin of the S1C8P348, and resets the S5U1C88348T system.
Speaker
The speaker is driven by output from the BZ (R50) pin of the S1C8P348. For more information on
controlling BZ output, see the "S1C88348/317/316/308 Technical Manual".
RS232C port
An RS232C port for communicating with a PC or other device may be mounted on the Main Board,
for which purpose the board has part mounting patterns (U7 and CN16). When using these patterns,
attach the driver IC and D-SUB connector shown in Section 4.7, "List of Recommended Parts". Serial
input/output operations are controlled by setting the S1C8P348's internal serial interface to asynchro-
nous mode.
Key input emulator connecting port
The S5U1C88348T is capable of supporting key input emulation by data transmitted from a PC.
Emulation requires a key input emulator board, for which the Main Board supplies a 20-pin connector
fitting pattern. For more information on appropriate connectors, see Section 4.7, "List of Recom-
mended Parts".
