7.2 Alphanumeric Input
The following provides information on entering alphanumeric characters and symbols.
Trying character input
No action is taken when a character input has no corresponding action in a particular menu select
screen or other mode.
To perform character input, you must first enter a mode that permits character entry. Follow the
procedures given below.

Entered keys can only be recognized one at a time. When you press two keys, the key pressed first
takes effect; the other key is enabled when you release the first key. Character keys do not support
automatic repeat; that is, you cannot repeatedly enter characters by holding down a key. Only the
directional/arrow keys [
↓
], [
↑
], [
←
], and [
→
] support the repeat feature.
Entering alphanumeric characters
If "CTRL" does not appear on the left side of the LCD panel, you are in alphanumeric input mode. If
"CTRL" is displayed, press the [Char] key once to remove it.
You may enter alphabets and numbers in this state.
Switching between uppercase and lowercase letters
To enter uppercase characters, press the [Caps] key once to display "CAP" on the LCD panel. This
mode remains in effect until you press the [Caps] key again to remove the displayed "CAP". If "CAP"
does not appear, characters are entered in lowercase. Numbers are always entered as numbers,
whether or not "CAP" is displayed.
Entering symbols
The symbols appearing on the upper portion of each alphabetic and numeric keytop may be entered
by pressing the [Shift] key to display "SHIFT" on the LCD. The "SHIFT" mode remains in effect for one
character entered immediately after pressing the [Shift] key. SHIFT mode ends as soon as a single
character is entered - even if the key does not represent a symbol. You can also exit SHIFT mode by
pressing the [Shift] key once again.
Using this keyboard, you must press, then release the [Shift] key, before pressing a symbol key. You
cannot use the [Shift] key to switch between uppercase and lowercase letters.
