This section explains how to start and quit the system.
5.1 Connecting the Power Supply
Place the batteries (three AA cells) into the battery holder. Make sure the direction of batteries.
When starting up for the first time, or when starting after batteries are replaced, the system will automati-
cally initialize on starting by placing batteries (see Section 5.4).
5.2 Powering On
When connected to a power supply but powered off, the system is powered up by pressing the [On/Off]
key.
At startup, the system displays the bitmap image of "Energy-saving Epson" and the current power supply
voltage for one second.
The LCD returns to the mode in which it was powered off, and the system stands by for key input.
5.3 Powering Off
When standing by for key input, the system is powered down by pressing the [On/Off] key.
In the power-off state, the system scans only the [On/Off] key. The LCD display switches off immediately
upon powering down, while the LEDs go out three minutes afterwards.

Auto power-off function
If no key entry is performed for five minutes in the power-on state, the system automatically powers
down after displaying "AUTO POWER OFF" for three seconds.
Note: Always use the [On/Off] key to shut down the system. To avoid losing data, never remove batteries
to shut down the system.
