Bridging (Fagoting)
Two folded edges are joined together by threads
over an open area. Use linen, cotton or blend of
linen/cotton. (Create Richelieu trim with 2/11.)
1.
Thread machine, needle and bobbin with a fine
embroidery thread (50 weight or finer). Use
spray starch to stabilize fabric.
2.
Fold and press under seam allowance to wrong
side of both fabrics.
3.
Baste folded edge of fabrics parallel to each
other on top of thin paper or water-soluble
stabilizer.
4.
Center stitching over paper/fabrics, catching the
folded edge of fabrics.
5.
Remove paper or wash away stabilizer and take
out basting stitches.
