  The working voltage rating of R1 may be achieved by using two 470k

Ω

 resistors in series, each with a working 

voltage rating of at least half of the value listed above.  In addition, the peak power and peak voltage rating of R1 
must be chosen to meet the high-pot testing requirements of the application. 

(5)  High-pot manufacturing tests must be performed proir to installation of this gas discharge tube.  High-pot testing 

between line and earth is usually performed at voltages above the gas tube arc-over voltage, and the test will fail if 
the gas tube arcs during testing.  In addition, a DC high-pot tester must be used to avoid excessive current flow 
through C1.
