Safety instructions

Target group:
For skilled electricians and suitable qualified, instructed
personnel in accordance with national legislation, including
the relevant standards and, where applicable, in acc. with

IEC/EN 60079-14 on electrical apparatus for explosive atmospheres.

The switches GHG 261 are not suited for use in Zone 0 and Zone 20.

The temperature class and type of protection stated on the appara-
tus shall be observed.

The requirements of the IEC/EN 60079-31  regarding excessive dust
deposits and temperature to be considered from the user.

To ensure adherence to the temperature class stated on the type
label of the apparatus, the permissible ambient temperature, the
rated terminal cross section and the self heating of the apparatus
that is mainly due to the power dissipation shall be taken into
account (test criterion for the self heating is an overload of 10%).

They shall be used for their intended purpose and shall be in a
perfect and clean state.

Prior to being put into  operation, the control units shall be checked
in accordance with the instructions as per section 6.

The covers of the safety switches GHG 261 can only be removed
when the switch is in the “ON” position.

The national safety rules and regulations for the prevention of
accidents, as well as the safety instructions included in these
operating instructions, that, like this text, are set in italics, shall be
observed!

Conformity with standards

The switches GHG 261are conform to the standards specified in the
EU-Declaration of conformity, enclosed separately.

References to standards and directives in this manual always refer to the
latest version. additional supplements (for example, date information)
must be observed.

Field of application

The switches GHG 261 are intended for use in potentially explosive
atmospheres in Zones 1 and 2 as well as in Zones 21 and 22 in accord-
ance with IEC/EN 60079-10-1 and IEC/EN 60079-10-2.

The enclosure materials used, including any external metal parts, are high
quality materials that ensure a corrosion resistance and resistance to
chemical substances according to the requirements for use in a ”normal
industrial atmosphere”:

– impact resistant polyamide
– special steel AISI 316 L.

For use in an extremely aggressive atmosphere, please contact your
Cooper Crouse-Hinds agent for additional information on the chemical
stability of the plastics used.

 5  Application / Properties

Due to the AC 3 motor switching capacity of the switches GHG 261,
reliable isolation (switching) is also possible during operation.

The switches GHG 261 fulfil the isolating properties according to
IEC/EN 60947-3.

In addition to this, the switches GHG 261 are so designed, that they also
switch off the drive, e.g. via the contactor that precedes the auxiliary
contact. In relation to the main contacts, this auxiliary contact is lagging
while making and leading while breaking.

Versions with gold-tipped auxiliary contacts are suited for switching
extra-low voltage circuits. Special attention shall be paid to the maximum
current load (see technical data). The contact chamber of the gold-tipped
version is marked with the letter ”G” or colour-coded.

Due to the mechanical design of the switches GHG 261, compulsory
opening of the contacts is possible.

To prevent unauthorized switching, the switches GHG 261 can be locked
in the ”OFF“ position by means of 3 padlocks, see fig. 1, (shackle
diameter of the padlocks up to 4 to 6 mm).

See technical data, for the temperature class, explosion group and
permissible ambient temperature.

The data according to sections 3 and 4 shall be taken into account during
use.

Applications other than those described are not permissible

without a written declara-tion of consent from Messrs. COOPER
Crouse-Hinds.

During operation the instructions stated in section 7 of the operating
instructions shall be observed.

The sole responsibility with respect to the suitability and proper use
of the control switches with regard to the basic requirements of
these instructions (see technical data) lies with the operator.
