Important
Whenever filters are checked or replaced, the four screws in the
filter enclosure, which ensure that the filters are in the optimum
position along the sealing tape, have to be removed before the
filters are pulled out. Failure to do so exposes the filters to a
substantial risk of damage. When the check or the replacement
is completed, the last step is to reinstall these screws.
The strap around the filters helps pull them out of the
enclosure more easily. The strap has to be reinstalled
around the checked filters, or around the new filters
in the case of a replacement, prior to the insertion of
the filters into the enclosure.
3.7.9 Checking the Filters (every 3 months)
Every 3 months the exhaust air monitor indicates that the in-
stalled filters need checking. To check the filters, the lid panel
has to be removed from the filter enclosure. A sticker on this
panel also provides information on the filter stages and the
used filters.
Behind the panel, the filters are accessible. Information texts on them
make the filters easily identifiable. Information on the date of shipment
and, possibly, the weight are also provided on the filters.
Checking the Stage 1 Filter (Particulate Filter)
Carefully pull the particulate filter out of the enclosure. Visual inspection
is sufficient to check the level of contamination of the filter. If the filter is
very dirty, it should be vacuumed, patted off or, very exceptionally, wiped
off with water. If water is used, wait for the filter to dry completely before
reinstalling it. If not, the activated carbon may absorb this humidity, which
would be a risk of false activated carbon weight readings.
After the filter was reinstalled, this has to be confirmed on the exhaust air
monitor for documentation purposes. Furthermore, it should be filled into
the Service and Replacement Report (see the appendix, p. 19) along with
the date, description, short identifier, and signature of the operator.
