on hazardous substances (series TRGS 900). Applicable national and
international exposure limits shall be observed.
If cancer-producing, germ cell-mutagenic or reproduction-toxic hazardous
substances of Categories 1A or 1B are stored in the cabinet to have its air
extracted, this air must not be released to the work area under para. 10
of Germany’s ordinance on hazardous substances. Internationally, similar
provisions are contained in national laws and requirements.
Make sure you wear appropriate personal protective gear when replac
-
ing the filter. The kind and extent of required personal protective gear
depend on the substances being filtered. Refer to the applicable Material
Safety Data Sheet for information on this.
During the filter replacement process, the filtered substance may be re-
leased partially. Therefore, perform the replacement at a well ventilated
location, e. g., the laboratory’s extraction flue.
Vorsicht
As the filtered substances may partially attach to the filter body
and may be released during filter replacement, the filter shall
be handled in all instances as are the filtered substances.
The design of the product is such that the fan blades are off-touch. Modifi-
cations to the enclosure or the suction hose that may make the fan blades
accessible to the touch when the unit is operating are prohibited.
Caution
The product must never be used if not completely installed,
with properly set suction hose.
Electrical work on the product must only be performed when
the air extraction monitor was previously disconnected from
power and / or locked against unwanted reapplication of power.
This also holds for electrical work on the extraction system of
which the monitor may be a part.
Info
Keep in mind that along with the quoted German and interna
-
tional requirements, other regulations related to the design of
the workplace and to substances may also apply, of which,
then, the provisions have to be respected.

Installing the Unit and Understanding its Functions
2.1 Installing and Checking out
1. If needed or desired, connect the potential-free contacts (so-called
“dry” contacts) to the terminal strip (see Sect. 3.3).
2. Connect the unit to the storage cabinet to be monitored:
Connect the exhaust nipple of the cabinet to the unit, e.g., with a
flexible sleeve fitting, making sure no strain is imposed on the con-
nection, and make a tight connection using an appropriate hose
clamp. This is indispensable to ensure proper operation of the ex-
traction fan.
3. Connect the exhaust airflow monitor to power. Then wait a few mo
-
ments for the monitor to initialize.
4. In some cases, it may be necessary to adapt the monitor to the
situation found on site. This involves mainly setting the differential
pressure meter and/or the speed of the fan (see Sect. 3.4).
Info
Be aware that the actually existing pressure difference is directly
dependent upon the speed with which the fan turns. Therefore,
if you are authorized to change the fan speed, bear in mind
