4.3.4 Increasing Sensitivity with Binning
Binning increases the camera’s light sensitivity by decreasing horizontal and/ or vertical
resolu tion —the charge collected by ad jacent p ixels is ad d ed together. Binning is also
u sefu l for increasing fram e rate (vertical binning) or increasing the p ixel p itch. For
exam p le, if you set you r vertical binning to 2 and you r horizontal binning to 2, you r p ixel
size increases from 7µm x 7µm (no binning) to 14µm x 14µm (2x2 binning).

Setting Horizontal Binning
Pu rp ose:
Increases the horizontal p ixel p itch and light sen sitivity by
d ecreasing horizontal resolu tion. The am ou nt of d ata being sent
from the cam era is red u ced by the horizontal binning factor.
Different fram egrabber files are need ed for d ifferent horizontal
binning factors.
