Removal and Replacement Procedures
Upgrading the Processor
Compaq Professional Workstations ship with a 350-, 400-, or 450- MHz Pentium II processor or
a 500-MHz Intel Pentium III processor
installed on the system board with tray as the primary
processor.
NOTE
: When you upgrade the primary processor, it is not necessary to upgrade or remove the
primary processor power module. However, if you do remove the primary processor power
module, you must reattach the cable insulator to the replacement module. The cable insulator is
required only for the primary processor power module and protects cables from exposed leads.
Installing the Primary Processor Power Module
Cable Insulator
CAUTION:
Static electricity can damage the electronic components of the
workstation. Before beginning these procedures, make sure you are discharged of
static electricity by briefly touching a grounded metal object.
To install the cable insulator:
1.
Perform the necessary service preparations described on page 3-2.
2.
Remove the following components:

workstation cover
❏
I/O bracket assembly (expansion board bracket)
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the
internal components to cool before touching.
NOTE
: For better access to the processor power module, you may need to slide the system
board with tray out half way.
3.
Press outward on both latches of the processor power module at the same time, then lift it
from the system board with tray.
