Note: Due to the weight and awkward size of the buck transformer, it is recommended the
installer have an assistant available to hold the transformer assembly in place during the
mounting.
7.0
Procedure:
Depending on the system, there are four (4) separate mounting procedures – three for
mounting on the lower base frame (spider) of the 9797 and one for mounting under the base
frame of the 81 inch radome. The wiring procedure is the same in all instances. When
mounting on the 9797 spider, choose ‘below the spider’ (Step 7.7) if the A/C is not yet
installed.
NOTE: The multiple ‘above the spider’ mounting instructions (Step 7.8) account for changes
in the spider design.
7.1
Unpack the upgrade kit, Sea Tel part number 134070, and inspect to ensure all
components are present. Included in the upgrade kit should be a copy of this
procedure.
7.2
Confirm all power to the antenna is secured and tagged out per the ship’s Safety
Management System (SMS). Secure the A/C circuit breaker in the OFF position.
7.3
Disconnect the power cable for the Dometic Air Conditioner from the A/C circuit
breaker. Disconnect the power cable from the Dometic Air Conditioner.
7.4
Attach the bare conductors of the 3 conductor, 14 AWG cable pigtail with male pin
plug to the external power connections of the Dometic Air Conditioner.
7.5
Attach the bare conductors of the 3 conductor, 14 AWG cable pigtail with female
socket plug to the outlet terminals of the A/C circuit breaker.
7.6
Mount the buck transformer assembly per section 7.7, 7.8 or 7.9 of this instruction.
7.7
Below the spider of a XX97 lower frame (Ref. Drawing 134391):
7.7.1
Ensure all fasteners are tight between the transformer and its bracket.
7.7.2
Carefully lift the buck transformer and place under the spider.
7.7.3
Insert one (1) ½-13 UNC x 1-1/4 inch cap screw with one (1) ½ inch flat
washer in each of the two (2) outboard holes of the transformer bracket
(see Photograph 1). Apply Loctite 271 threadlocker.
7.7.4
Thread on one (1) ½-13 UNC nut with one (1) ½ inch lock washer and one
(1) ½ inch flat washer on each cap screw. Tighten securely in accordance
with Sea Tel Procedure 122305.
