with very high particle counts, causing the sensor to over-concentrate. When the
sensor over-concentrates, pairs of particles begin to be counted as one larger
particle, and the number of counts in the lower channel begin to decrease, while the
larger channels may become somewhat inflated in number. In extreme cases, two or
more channels may begin to have identical counts. To verify that the particle
counter is acting normally, take it into a cleaner area to see if the problem goes
away.
6.3
Low laser power
The CI-154 constantly checks the status of the laser diode. If the unit detects a loss
of laser power, a screen reporting “Low Laser Power” will appear and sampling will
stop. Pressing [
OK
] will clear this screen. The STATUS indicator on the right side of
the display will remain red and indicate “LOW LASER”. In case of a low laser
condition, stored data may be viewed and printed. If the laser diode has failed and
the [
START
]
button is pressed, the low laser power notification screen will appear
again. If the laser diode has failed, the unit should be sent back to Climet or a
qualified local service facility to have a new laser diode installed, and the sensor
recertified and checked for count efficiency.
6.4
Low flow rate
The CI-154 checks the status of the flow when sampling is in progress. If the
indicated flow rate is less than 80% of nominal for approximately 5 seconds, a
screen reporting “Low Flow Rate” will appear. Sampling will be halted. Pressing [
OK
]
will clear this screen. If a low flow rate condition is detected, the user should inspect
the tubing and sample probe for obstructions.
The purpose of this feature is to prevent sampling from occurring when a severe
obstruction or flow system failure exists. An additional flow alarm may be set by the
user.
6.5
Calibration service
The CI-154, like any other electronic measurement equipment, should be calibrated
at least annually. Since the purpose of the calibration is to establish that the
calibration is in tolerance, and that data collected with the instrument is therefore
reliable, owners of equipment used in more critical applications may choose to have
their instrument calibrated at 6-month intervals.
The accuracy and consistency of your CI-154 can be degraded by unqualified and
marginally experienced calibration services. To insure that the count efficiency of the
instrument is maintained to factory specifications, you may ship your unit to either
our Eastern or Western service facility, or arrange for on-site service. For locations
outside the U.S., consult your local distributor.
Climet particle counters are calibrated in compliance with ISO 21501-4 when they
are manufactured. Subsequent calibrations can also be done in compliance with ISO
21501-4 at the owner’s request.
Climet’s calibration service follows ANSI Z-540 and ISO 10012, providing both

in-tolerance
or
out-of tolerance
findings.
