Problems, Likely Causes, and Recommended Solutions.
Issue/Problem
Likely Causes
Recommended Solutions
Adaptec U160 29160 and
39160 SCSI cards do not
negotiate at U160 speeds after
the OS is loaded, or in the
BIOS during host computer
initialization.
A problem with the SCSI
drivers, not the host computer’s
RAID drivers installed on the
OS.
1. After the OS is loaded, uninstall the
drivers (using “Device Manager”).
2. Re-install the drivers. The U160
LED illuminates, and the SCSI cards
should now negotiate at U160
speeds.
MV U320-RX only: Power
supply beeper (Low-pitched
continuous tone)
Indicates a problem with the
power supply frame or power
supply module.
While it is rare, the frame can
fail. Otherwise this is usually
caused by a bad power supply
module.
1. Swap the power supply modules to
determine if the problem follows the
module or stays with that position on
the frame.
2. Contact Ciprico Inc. technical
support for further instructions.
LED(s) stuck on immediately
on power up
Indicates that a controller is not
getting power.
Can be caused by loose power
connector to controller, defec-
tive controller, or defective
power supply frame, or
severed LED board cable.
Contact Ciprico Inc. technical support
for further instructions.
Immediate continuous tone
(high-pitched) on power-up
Indicates that the controller
either isn't getting proper power
or that the controller failedm or
that there is a possible power
supply failure.
Can be caused by any of the
above problems, or that the
power supply is not functioning
properly.
Contact Ciprico Inc. technical support
for further instructions.
Other Hardware Failure
Includes: LED failure, beeper
failure, switch failure, or a
problem inside the chassis.
