Perform only when the unit is OFF
with power disconnected.
Turn power off at the main disconnect
switch.
For the side conveyor to be worked on:
Have one worker press in on the edge
of the belt roller arm to compress the
spring and relax tension on the belt
(Figure 7-49, A).
The other worker can then easily re-
move the pin which secures the two
ends of the belt (Figure 7-49, B).
Pull the belt’s roller arm out of the ma-
chine (Figure 7-50).
Use a coat hanger of stiff wire with one
end bent at a 90º angle to catch and pull
the tensioning spring out from the arm tube
(Figure 7-51).
Measure the length of the uncompressed
spring. If it is not 5 1/2”, the spring has
lost elasticity and must be replaced
If the spring is good, slide it back into the
tube and replace the roller arm removed
in Step 3. Make sure the arm is oriented
correctly as shown in the picture.
Take the connecting pin from the old belt
and attache one end of the new belt to the
old one.
WARNING
Never start the unit while
installing a side conveyor
belt. It is dangerous
and unnecessary.
