0. Introduction
This document provides all the necessary information to use and maintain the Centurion
Contour Arc Face Screen Systems. To be properly protected you must carefully study
this manual before use! Failure to follow these instructions can result in a permanent
impairment of sight or other serious personal injury.

1. Description
Contour Arc face screen systems consist of a face screen with a permanently attached
Chin Guard and a carrier for fitting to a Centurion Concept or Nexus safety helmet. Only
use completely assembled systems.
2. General Warnings
• For use by skilled persons only
• Do not over expose the product to sunlight and do not use it for welding
• Do not expose to open fire for long periods of time
• Surface may get hot when exposed to electromagnetic radiation
• Only use as a system with the correct approved components
• Only use original replacement parts
• Make sure that your work place is sufficiently illuminated
• Free head movement and personal view may be affected
Incorrect packing may decrease the level of protection. Ensure the storage instructions in
Section 7 are followed.
• Material which may come into contact with the wearer’s skin could cause allergic
reactions to susceptible individuals. (REMARK: Centurion carefully selects the
materials and is not aware of any allergic reaction.)
• The Contour Arc Screen protects against high speed particles. When worn over
standard ophthalmic spectacles, they may transmit impacts, thus creating a hazard to
the wearer.
3. Field of Application
The Contour Arc Screen, together with additional PPE appropriate for the afore
determined level of protection, protects the qualified user during live working or when
staying in the vicinity of live parts. The Contour Arc Screen provides safety to eyes and
face only, if used as intended.
4. Fitting Instructions
For instructions on how to fit the screen to the carrier and then to the safety helmet as well
as instructions on removal, refer to the pictorial images at the front of these instructions.
ATTENTION: Do not disassemble/remove the chin guard from the face screen! All
replacement CENTURION face screens of this Contour Arc Screen system are provided
with a permanently attached chin guard.

5. Usage
5.1 General
Always check the Contour Arc Screen system components before use. Make sure the
Contour Arc Screen is securely attached to the Contour Carrier and adjusted in the
correct position as shown in the fitting instructions above.
NOTE: Due to national safety rules and company policies in some countries or
companies the usage of safety glasses underneath the face screen may be mandatory.
NOTE: An arc flash / electrical fault arc of high incident energies may cause permanent
impairment of sight or other serious personal injury. PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
should be considered as the last barrier if everything else fails.
The best protection is achieved with helmets allowing a very close position of the face
screen to the face. Nevertheless, make sure that your nose or other parts of your head
and face are kept clear from the inner face screen surface.
The operating temperature shall be between -5°C and 45°C.
5.2 Contour Arc Face Screen Approvals
The Contour Arc Screen systems are Arc Protection Class 2 and VLT Class 0 or 2
products as per GS-ET-29. The Light-Green and Clear-Grey HT face screens provide
the maximum light transmittance and improved colour recognition as per EN 170. At
regular working conditions additional lighting may not be required. Nevertheless, check
your colour recognition before using this product under your particular working condition.
The Grey HT screen is a VLT Class 2 product as per GS-ET-29 and it exceeds by far
the specification of the highest arc flash protection class according to GS-ET-29 and still
provides ‘improved colour recognition’ as per EN 170. For a light transmittance of VLT
class 2 as per GS-ET-29 additional illumination is supposed to be required to achieve a
minimum illumination level of 30 lux behind the visor.
NOTE: Due to diverse workplace conditions check necessity for additional lighting when
wearing the Contour Arc Screen system. Artificial illumination, especially illumination
coming from fluorescent or LED lamps together with the tinting of the Contour Arc Screen
may affect your colour recognition capabilities. In order to make sure that you are able to
sufficiently recognise colours it is recommended to follow the process below:
1. Collect pieces of cables used at your workplace;
2. Make sure that you are in a safe area with an illumination (type and intensity) as at
your workplace;
3. Clean the face screen and inspect it for damages (don’t hesitate to replace the face
screen if necessary - read the user instructions);
4. Put the face screen on as per user instructions;
5. Quickly sort the cable pieces.
If you are finding it difficult to select the right cables, the illumination is not sufficient or the
face screen is too dark. Poor illumination may cause an accident, such as an arc flash.”
NOTE: The Contour Arc Screen is designed to protect the eyes and face against
the mechanical and thermal hazards of an arc flash. However, it does not substitute
prescription glasses, other eye and face PPE, respirator masks or further PPE required
for sufficient protection as per the hazard and risk analysis and particular work safety
regulations at a particular workplace.
All Contour Arc Screen kits are certified to EN 166:2001 and 170:2002, GS-ET-29: 2011-
05 (Class 2 Open-Box test at 423 kJ/m2 ~ 10 cal/cm2) and comply with Annex II of PPE
Regulation 2016/425. The Grey HT screens are designed to meet ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015
and have been tested to ATPV of 26 cal/ cm2 as per ASTM F2178:2008 (PPE Category
2 as per NFPA 70E:2015)
