STEP 21
Use the same tools and procedures as in Step 19
without a press to completely seat the seal (1) in the
seal shoulder. The seal is completely seated when
the gap between the seal (1) and the spacer (2)
installed in Step 20 is 0.35 mm (0.014 in).
STEP 22
Heat the bearing cone (1) in an oven to 300°F
(148°C) for 20 minutes. Carefully install the inner
bearing cone (1) on the spindle.
WARNING:
Use protective gloves when handling the
bearing cone (1).
STEP 23
Coat the bearing cup mounting surface of the spindle
housing with Loctite® 609 Retaining Compound.
Use a bearing driver to install the outer bearing cup
(1) in the drive spindle housing.
NOTE:
Be sure the bearing cup (1) is completely
seated in the spindle housing.
NOTE:
The bearing cup (1) can be cooled to 0°F (-
18°C) or colder for easier installation.
