5 Using the XSpect Pro Program
5.1 XSpect Pro Program Start-up
All steps necessary to reach an operational state are described in chapter 4.7. The instrument has
to be switched on by turning the key switch. In the next step the software is started either using the
desktop icon
or starting the software via Start >> Programs >> Bruker >> XSpect Pro.
During the start-up of the software the following dialog is displayed.

In the process of the software start-up the user will be asked to switch on the high voltage (HV) of
the X-ray tube as shown in Fig. 28.
Fig. 28 Switching on the high voltage
As soon as the HV button is pressed, the HV generator is activated and the dialog will vanish from
the screen. It is recommended to switch on the high voltage as early as during program start-up. In
this way the X-ray tube is more likely to reach stable working conditions before relevant
measurements are started.
Attention!
If the instrument was out of use for a longer period of time the software
initializes a warm-up phase for the X-ray tube filament. The tube HV and tube
current will be increased slowly in order to prevent the material form high
thermal strain. Dependent of the shutdown period this warm-up can take up to
30 min.
