7.1 Switching off the Instrument
The instrument should be switched off for transport, for service purposes and when it is not used
for a longer period of time.
Procedure for switching the instrument off:
1. Stop the measurement
2. Finishing the program and switching of the instrument control computer (high voltage is
switched off automatically)
3. Turning off the M1 ORA/MISTRAL with the key switch.
7.2 Standby
Mode
The M1 ORA/MISTRAL instruments can operate several hours without reducing the service life. A
standby mode is recommended only for waiting times > 5 h, but not absolutely necessary.
The instruments have no automatic standby mode, only HV and tube current can be reduced
manually for preserving the X-ray tube. The setting of 20 kV and 200 µA is recommended for
waiting times > 5 h.
After switching on the high voltage it must be waited approx. 30 minutes for the thermal
equilibration of X-ray tube and detector to be finished.
For normal operation the parameters need to be reset to the initial values. If a measurement
method is loaded, the measurement parameters are set automatically.
