Camshaft
1. See Figure 74. Check camshaft gear (
A
) for worn,
cracked, chipped, or missing teeth.
2. Check operation of yoke on Mechanical Compression
Release (MCR) mechanism (
B
).
NOTE:
Press yoke to the OPEN position, and then
verify that it returns to the fully CLOSED position
when released.
3. Check camshaft lobes (
C
) for scratching, scoring, or
excessive wear.
4. Check MAG bearing journal (
D
) and PTO bearing
journal (
E
) for scratching or scoring.
5. Using an outside micrometer, measure the MAG
bearing journal and PTO bearing journal diameters.
Replace the camshaft if either measurement is
0.548
inches
(13.916 mm) or less.
