Piloting your ROV
Overview
This section describes how to use the Control Station, telemetry screen and
tether reel to move your ROV through the water. At all times, you also need to:
ensure the tether cable is managed effectively to avoid excess drag, being
carried away with the current, or danger of snagging
keep the ROV below the surface of the water to prevent thrusters from
breaching as this may damage the thrusters
monitor the Pressure reading on the telemetry screen to ensure ROV is
watertight
monitor the Battery reading on the telemetry screen to make sure you have
enough battery to return to the surface.
Safety
Communication
Communication is of utmost importance here – it is essential that the ROV pilot
and tether reel operator have frequent and open communication to avoid injury
to the team or damage to the ROV system. We have outlined some hazards in
this section but nothing in this manual will make up for effective communication
by the team.
