Requirement
Chain sag is correctly adjusted.
Park the vehicle, making sure
that the ground is firm and
level.
Engage 1st gear.
Rotate the rear wheel in the
driving direction until the
drive chain is tensioned.
Determine chain length below
the rear wheel swinging arm
above the center of 10 rivets
at 3 different locations.
Permissible chain length
max 5.7 in (max 144 mm)
(measured over the
center
of
10 rivets, drive chain under
tension)
If the drive chain has reached
the maximum approved length:
Contact a specialist work-
shop, preferably an authorized
BMW Motorrad retailer.
