3. Introduction
NOTE
There are a large number of different models in the Rackmount Extender
series. If you ever need a quick rundown of the features of any particular
model, refer to
Appendix E
.
The Rackmount ServSwitch™ Brand CAT5 KVM (including KVM/Serial and
KVM/Serial/Audio) Extenders are multiple keyboard/video/mouse extension
systems. By using an Extender Local Hub together with a set of standalone
Extender “Remotes” (Remote Units or Remote Hubs), you can place up to six or
twelve VGA monitors, keyboards, and mice as far as 50 meters (160 ft.) or
300 meters (985 ft.) from the PC-compatible CPUs they communicate with. This
means that you can rackmount the Local Hub and the CPUs in a secured central
location and put your keyboards, monitors, and mice in regular offices where they
belong. These Local Hub models are available:
• 6- and 12-Port Single-Access (“regular”) KVM Extender Local Hubs (product
codes ACU1006RA and ACU1012RA respectively). Use these with the non-
serial full-size KVM Extender Remote Units (product code ACUREM), KVM
Micro Extender Remote Units and Hubs (ACUMREM and ACU1006MRA),
and Switching Remote Units (ACUREMSW), which also support an attached
remote CPU.
• 6-Port Dual-Access KVM Extender Local Hub (ACU1006DRA). This has all of
the capabilities listed above, and also supports a local monitor, keyboard, and
mouse for each CPU. Use it with the non-serial full-size KVM Extender Remote
Units and the KVM Micro Extender Remote Units and Hubs (ACUREM,
ACUMREM, and ACU1006MRA).
• 6-Port Single-Access (ACU1006SRA) or Dual-Access (ACU1006DSRA) KVM/
Serial Extender Local Hub. These have all of the capabilities listed above, and
also support a connection between each CPU and a remote touchscreen or
other RS-232 serial device. Use these with the KVM/Serial Extender Remote
Units (ACUSREM).
• 6-Port Single-Access KVM/Serial/Audio Extender Local Hub (ACU1006VRA).
These have all of the capabilities of the KVM/Serial Local Hubs, and can also
support a connection between each CPU and a remote microphone and
speakers (or other sources of audio input and output). Use it with the full-size
KVM/Serial/Audio Extender Remote Units and the KVM/Serial/Audio Micro
Remote Units and Hubs (ACUVREM, ACUWREM, and ACU1006MRVA).
