ISDN
In North America in particular, correct provisioning of the ISDN line can be
problematical, due to the many different service packages on offer and
parameters that can be set in the central office switch. If you suspect that
your ISDN line is not working properly, you may verify its operation by
what is known as a loopback test, which involves making a call out on one
‘B’ channel and back in on the other.
First, type SAVE to ensure that your current configuration can be restored.
When the bridge connects to itself in loopback mode, it will detect its own
name and then disconnect the call. Go to the ISDN Port Status screen by
typing STAT ISDN. Then type CALL [number] where [number] is the
ISDN phone number of the Marlin’s ISDN line that you are trying to test. If
you have given a different local number to each ‘B’ channel, use the one
you configured under ISDN2 (if you use the one configured under ISDN1,
you will get a busy signal, clearing code 17).
If all is working well, the ISDN Port Status screen will show both the
outgoing and incoming calls made from and to the unit. If there is a
problem, the error code sent by the network or generated internally (see
Table 6.1 and Table 6.2) will be displayed against ISDN1. At the
conclusion of the testing, reboot the bridge to restore the saved
configuration.
Common ISDN problems include code 50, where the line has not been
provisioned correctly, and code 146, which indicates that a local directory
number or SPID has been set incorrectly. In these cases, please check the
line configuration with your telephone company, and get them to specify
exactly the local directory number and SPIDs to be used (including any
user-assigned suffixes that may be required).
