Typically, an automatically learned Novell server will consist of three autocall
entries: an IPX_SAP for the service details, an IPX_RIP for connecting to the
service, and an IPX_RIP with the address prefixed with a ! for controlling the
autocall and spoofing. For example, a file server called Main_Server could
create the following entries;
IPX_SAP
00001234:000000000001:0451 00/00 Main_Server
00001234 is the Novell internal network number of the server
000000000001 is the node number (this is always 1 for Netware 3.xx/4.xx)
0451 is the socket number (these are assigned by Novell Inc.)
00 hop count is not used in SAP entries
00 ticks are not used in SAP entries
Main_Server is the service name that was advertised
IPX_RIP
00001234:0800ab123456:0000 02/05
00001234 is the Novell internal network number of the server
0800ab123456 is the node number (MAC address) that advertised the service
0000 the socket is not used in RIP entries
02 is the number of networks that must be crossed to reach the server
05 is the estimated time in 1/18
th
seconds to reach the server
IPX_RIP
!00009876:0800ab123456:0000 01/03
! indicates this entry controls the autocall threshold idle parameters
00009876 is the Novell external network number of the server
0800ab123456 is the node number (MAC address) that advertised the service
