Product traceability
The traceability function enables individual purchases to be traced
back to the original batch by printing trace details on labels for all
products associated with a particular batch.Traceability is primarily
used for beef products but can be used for other types of meat or for
non-meat products such as fish or cheese.
Traceability works by using Schemes and Carcass numbers or Lots.
The Scheme defines the types of information to be carried through the
supply chain from the place of birth of the animal to the consumer.
The Carcass or Lot number references a specific carcass. A carcass
may be split up as it progresses through the supply chain but this
number remains the same and is carried forward to each piece of the
carcass.
The carcass or lot number is usually supplied by the previous supplier
in the chain all the way back to the farm where the animal was born.
