INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
INTENDED USE:
The STERRAD ® Incubator is designed to incubate up to 18 biological indicator
vials at 58°C ±2°C. The open well design provides viewing of the vial contents
while incubating. The STERRAD Incubator is designed for use with the
Advanced Sterilization Products’ (ASP) STERRAD CycleSure™ Biological
Indicator. Use only as directed to ensure proper product performance.
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION:
The electronically controlled incubator is factory set at 58°C. Heating is
achieved through a thermally conductive path from element to block to test
tube to media. Heating control is achieved by means of a precision sensor and
automatic electronic controller calibrated to the media temperature. Qualified
technicians using a calibrated thermometer can perform field temperature
adjustment, within the adjustable range.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Place on dry horizontal surface with rubber feet down. Depress the rocker
switch to the “on” position, which illuminates the switch to green. Wait at least
1 hour. The temperature should read 58°C ±2°C. The incubator is now ready for
use. Refer to the STERRAD CycleSure Biological Indicator’s instructions for
incubation time.
CALIBRATION:
Bring the incubator to 58°C. Place a calibrated thermometer in the
thermometer port located on the left side of the top tier. Close the cover. Wait
15 minutes before reading the thermometer. No recalibration is needed if the
thermometer reading is 58 ±2°C. The recalibration is performed with a
screwdriver adjustment located at the center rear of the inner case. A small flat
bladed screwdriver is needed to adjust the recalibration potentiometer. A
clockwise quarter turn will decrease the temperature approximately 2°C. Wait
at least 1 hour between adjustments.
OPERATIONAL PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS:
1. Use only STERRAD CycleSure Biological Indicator to achieve specified
incubator performance.
2. Locate the STERRAD Incubator in a static air area. Do not locate in the air
stream of a heating or cooling vent.
3. Incubator should be plugged into a properly grounded electrical outlet.
4. Incubator must be used with the included AC cordset only.
