9.1.4. Transposing the pattern
Transposition only affects tracks that are set to the Pitch type. The various track types are
described
.
9.1.4.1. Using the pads
You can transpose a pattern during playback by using a combination of the pads. Here's
how
• Hold pad 16, which is labeled "Transpose". The current transposition value is
shown by which pad is lit.
• Press one of the pads to define the transposition amount.
Transposition of a pattern is relative to the key of C. So if you want to transpose the pattern
up by a minor third from its original pitch, press the D# pad. To return the pattern to its
original key, press the C pad.
♪
: The chromatic transposition amount stored when the pattern is saved, but it does not change the
recorded data. You can always restore the original key by "untransposing" to the key of C.
9.1.4.2. Setting the octave range
Pads 14 and 15 are labeled [Octave -] and [], respectively. They can be used to
modify the octave range of a pattern independently from the pads.
When you hold pad 16 (Transpose) and press either of these pads once, the pad will flash
slowly to indicate 1 octave of transposition: Pad 14 will flash for "down" and pad 15 will
flash for "up." If the you press the same pad a second time the pattern will be transposed
by another octave. The LED will flash faster the further from center the keyboard range
becomes.
Holding pad 16 and pressing both OCTAVE buttons at the same time will reset the octave
transposition to center again.
♪
: The octave shift amount is stored when the pattern is saved, but it does not change the recorded
data. You can always restore the original octave range by holding pad 16 and pressing both Octave
buttons.
9.1.4.3. Using external MIDI / USB
Sequences can be transposed up and down from an external keyboard using the MIDI or
USB input. When you hold pad 16 the pads will show the transposition amount, even if it
arrived from an external source.
