TurboStack Hubs with Management
17
The principal use for the RS232 port is connection of a local network
management terminal to access Omega. For more information, refer to the
TurboStack™ AT-S10 Firmware Module for TurboStack Hubs Operations
Manual.
AUI Appliqué Port
Each manageable TurboStack hub has a convertible AUI port located on
the front panel. You may use this port to connect the hub to the network.
In a department concentrator configuration, you might typically use one
module’s AUI port for the network connection and the other modules’ AUI
ports for station connections.
Figure 10 (above) shows this port configured as an AUI appliqué for
10BASE5. This port is convertible on all TurboStack hubs that have
management capability. You may configure it by replacing the network-
interface appliqué, as described below and in the
TurboStack™ AT-TSAx
Appliqués Installation Manual
shipped with all ATI appliqué kits.
Note
The AUI port on TurboStack hubs without management capability (i.e.,
“Slave” models) are permanently installed. They may not be converted. The
fixed AUI port resides on the front panel of each AT-TS12FS/SM, SC, or ST
slave module and on the back panel of each AT-TS24TRS and AT-TS24TS
slave module.)
Hub Connection Options
You can adapt individual hubs in a department concentrator to different
network media using either ATI external transceivers or internal
appliqués.
Appliqués
Optional appliqués are available for connection with fiber optic (SM, SC,
or ST), thinnet (BNC), or UTP (RJ45) cabling, in addition to the AUI
interface. Figure 11 shows the different TurboStack appliqués available.
